On January 21 we will start a new study titled The Blue Parakeet – Rethinking How You Read the Bible , by Scot McKnight
Parakeets are delightful pets. We cage them or clip their wings to keep them where we want them. Scot McKnight contends that many attempt the same thing with the Bible. We all try to tame it. In this bold, engaging reexamination of reading the Bible, Dr. McKnight calls all Christians from both ends of the spectrum to stop taming the Bible and to let it speak anew to our hearts. He invites us to rethink how to read the Bible, to see it as a story that we’re all summoned to enter and carry forward in our day.
During our study we will see McKnight’s framing of a variety of issues that we must deal with in the Bible that are in many respects on the front page of our lives today, including women’s role in church ministry, slavery, the atonement, Genesis & science, and kingdom & Justice issues.
