UPWARD BASKETBALL AND CHEER

Upward Sports is the world's largest Christian youth sports organization, designed to develop total athletes mentally, athletically, spiritually, and socially. Grace Church has  partnered with Upward since 2004 to offer balanced competition, equal playing time, and family-friendly schedules centered around faith-based values. 

Upward Basketball & Cheer is open to all students in Kindergarten - 12th grade

Evaluations

Each basketball player must attend ONE of the following: 

  • Monday, October 5: 6:30 - 8 pm
  • Thursday, October 8 6:30 - 8 pm
  • Monday, October 19: 6:30 - 8 pm
  • Friday, October 23: 6:30 - 8 pm

Please use the Gym entrance on the north side of the building (Door #4).

Practices

General Practice Information:

  • Practices begin the week of December 14, 2026. 
  • There will not be ANY practices the week of December 21 or December 28. 
  • Teams practice one night per week for one hour. 
  • Practice nights are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. 
  • Families may indicate one night they cannot practice. 
  • We will attempt to schedule siblings' practices on the same nights, but we cannot guarantee it. 
  • Due to the size of the program, we are unable to honor any carpool requests or specific coach requests. 

Typical Practice Times:

  • Elementary Players: 5:30 - 7:30 pm slots.
  • Middle and High School Students: 7:30 - 9:30 pm slots.

Please note that the above schedule is our goal, but practice time depends on the number of players and teams. 

Games

General Game Info: 

  • Games begin Saturday, January 9, 2027. 
  • Games take place each Saturday in January and February. 
  • Elementary players will play at Grace Church. 
  • Middle School and High School Players will play at Mooresville Christian Academy (MCA).
  • Game lengths vary based on age. 
  • Typically, games run from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
  • Game times will vary based on the number of teams in each age division. 

Cheerleading: 

  • Cheer for the full length of the game and may include a half-time feature. 
  • Cheerleading squads include athletes of various ages. 

Parent/ Guardian Acknowledgements:

By registering your child/children for the Upward Program at Grace, you are acknowledging and agreeing to comply with the following: 

  • Due to the size of the program, we are unable to honor any carpool requests or specific coach requests. 

  • Elementary-aged games are ref-ed and the clock is run by those in training. Please understand this is a learning league for them too.
  • Students registering for the High School League will be asked to provide a copy of their birth certificate to ensure that the integrity of the Upward Program remains intact. 
  • Spectator Expectations: 

    • Positive Sportsmanship

    • No Sideline Coaching

    • Players only on the Team Benches

    • Zero-Tolerance for Referee Abuse

Cost

  • Early Bird Price through October 1: $110
  • After October 1: $130
  • Sibling Discount: $5 each

Volunteer Opportunities

We have several volunteer opportunities for this Upward Season. Simply click the opportunity you would like to sign up for. 

  • Coach 
    • You must pass a background check before being allowed to serve. 
    • You must also provide at least 2 references. 
    • You must also attend one of the Coaches Meetings on either Monday, November 30 at 6:30 pm, or on Tuesday, December 1 at 6:30 pm. 
  • Referee 
    • You must pass a background check before being allowed to serve. 

  • Concession Helper
    • Adults must pass a background check before being allowed to serve.
    • Minors must be accompanied by an adult who has passed a background check. 
  • Timekeeper
    • This is a great opportunity for teenage helpers to serve during the elementary games. 
    • Adults will serve as timekeepers for middle school and high school games. 
  • Door Greeter
    • Help welcome Upward athletes and their families.
