This month, I want to take a minute to discuss a simple way that you can take care of your team… and that’s by having a “Kids Go Free” policy for your staff.
If you have a kid in youth ministry or kids ministry at your church, then you know that it’s becoming expensive for them to stay actively involved. The price of everything has gone up. For example, Summer Camps cost more, Winter Retreats cost more, Mission Trips cost more, etc. And, this increased cost is becoming an increased burden on your staff families.
As a result, I would highly recommend that your church pays for staff kids to be involved at the church. This is a very simple way for you to bless your team, and to make sure that their kids have every opportunity to fully participate.
Here is how it is written in our benefits document at our church:
Kids Go Free: As a simple way to bless our team, we allow all staff kids to participate in church events and church trips for free. The church covers the admission/registration, and your family will cover the incidentals (food while traveling, merchandise, etc.).
Each ministry leader knows how many staff kids are in their ministry, and during budget season, they add this amount to their ministry budget. For example, if our Youth Pastor has 4 staff kids in his Youth Ministry, and Summer Camp costs $400, he will set aside $1,600 in his youth budget to make sure that the staff kids are able to go to Summer Camp for free.
Little things like this end up being a big blessing for your staff. If you haven’t created a “Kids Go Free” policy for your staff yet, let me encourage you to work on that now, and implement it at the beginning of 2025. I promise, this will be well-received by your team.
