A few weeks ago, my Lead Pastor, Brian Mayfield, wrote this on his social media. I thought it was great, and wanted to share it with you this month. I hope you find it as helpful as I did!
“As we approach our work, we have to make a decision: Am I more concerned with feeling VALUED or with being VALUABLE? There's a difference.
If we are driven by feeling valued, we will lobby for our own advancement, foster silos, focus on our circumstances, and defend our ideas.
If we are focused on being valuable, we look for what's best for the organization (company, business, church), welcome collaboration, focus on the big picture, and prioritize solving problems. AND... we will wind up feeling valued in the process.
How are you approaching your work?
‘Though receiving cheers and medals might cause us to feel valued, at least for a time, receiving guidance - specifically information to help us change course or improve - is what makes us valuable.’ Liz Wiseman, Impact Players” |
