CFC's Newest Army Soldier

On January 15, 2026, Kaitlyn Sansone, a CFC member and a student in the University of Evansville’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, took the U.S. Army oath of office at the Indianapolis Military Entrance Processing Station as part of her enlistment in the U.S. Army National Guard.

Kaitlyn is participating in the Army’s Simultaneous Membership Program, which allows college students to serve in the U.S. Army National Guard while also participating in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps - ROTC - as they prepare for future service as commissioned officers.

Through Kaitlyn’s enlistment, she will serve in the Military Police Program at the National Guard Center in Jasper, Indiana. The CFC Veteran Ministry thanks the Lord for Kaitlyn’s commitment to serve both God and country, and we pray for His continued guidance, protection, and blessing upon her as she begins this important work.

Q & A: Honor Flight of Southern Indiana

The Tri-State community is blessed to have Honor Flight of Southern Indiana (HFSI) as a special way to honor local Veterans. Below are three key points from HFSI’s most recent newsletter (1st Quarter 2026 -  February):

1. What is HFSI's Mission?

The HFSI is the 133rd Honor Flight National Network hub and serves the Indiana counties of Crawford, Daviess, Dubois, Gibson, Knox, Lawrence, Martin, Orange, Perry, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh and Warrick. The HFSI provides a day of honor and celebration in Washington DC to America’s Veterans by visiting memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifices, without any cost to the Veterans. This is made possible with the help of generous donors and volunteers. The HFSI is a 501c3 corporation.

The HFSI selects its oldest Veterans first, along with those Veterans who may be medical necessity. Any Veteran who has served this great country is eligible for their Honor Flight. A Veteran DOES NOT have to serve during conflict or overseas to qualify for his or her FREE Honor Flight (information from February 2026 HFSI newsletter, page 1)

???????? The next Honor Flight is scheduled for May 2, 2026.

2. How can I help to support the HFSI?

The attached HFSI newsletter highlights several noteworthy opportunities to come alongside local Veterans in support of the HFSI mission. One especially valuable way to serve is by encouraging and assisting Veterans with completing an Honor Flight application. Applications are available online at www.HonorFlightSI.org and must be entered into the HFSI database for a Veteran to be considered.

Each Veteran is accompanied on the Washington, DC trip by a Guardian (please see page 4 of the attached February 2026 HFSI newsletter for Guardian requirements). Through the CFC Veteran Ministry, CFC is thankful to help make this special experience possible for CFC Veterans on the Honor Flight by contributing the $550 fee to cover a Guardian’s flight cost for up to two Guardians per year, on a first-come, first-served basis. To inquire about availability, please contact Lynn Henselman, Coordinator, CFC Veteran Ministry, at 540-455-9332 or cfcveteranministry@gmail.com.

3. What if I am unable to travel to Washington DC for the Honor Flight?

In 2025 HFSI created and undertook two Virtual Honor Flights (HFs).

According to page 6 of the February 2026 HNFI newsletter, "Virtual Honor Flight is for those Veterans in our database, who decide for whatever reason, to decline taking their Honor Flight trip Washington, DC. With Virtual, we still Honor these Veterans with a one-day experience. Veterans, their Guardian, and one guest will gather for a meal, a video presentation of a typical Honor Flight in DC, a short program, they receive MAIL CALL and the HEROES WELCOME HOME. . . If you are in our database and want additional information on a Virtual HF, please leave a message on our phone answering line 812-297-4136."

NOTE: In 2025 two Virtual Honor Flights took place at CFC! Information regarding the schedule for 2026 Virtual Honor Flights is pending.
