Church family,

As we come to our final week in the Lord, Teach Us to Pray series, it is worth pausing to take in what we have walked through together.

We have looked at how to talk with God, how to hear from God, how Jesus models prayer - especially in matters of provision, forgiveness, deliverance, and fasting. We have even considered how the Apostle Paul prays for enlightened hearts.

This Sunday, we bring the series to a close before fully turning our attention to the Easter season. We will be focusing on Prayer and Revival and what that means for us as a church.

As our church continues to grow, we want to be intentional about creating an environment where every person can feel safe, welcomed, and able to focus on worship. Our Safety & Security Team plays an important role in making that possible each Sunday.

From being present and attentive to responding when needs arise, this team serves quietly but meaningfully behind the scenes. We’re grateful that this ministry is now under the leadership of Luke Harrington, a church member with years of experience in the Orlando Police Department, including work focused on church safety. We are truly blessed by his expertise and leadership.

We are also grateful for the Winter Park Police Department and our strong relationship with them as they help keep our city and our church safe.

Visiting Sister Church  

Sunday, March 8th, Bronwyn and I had the opportunity to visit our sister church in Texas, ForestView, pastored by our good friend Dr. John Canterbury. I have not had much experience working with church plants, but getting to hear and see how this church has grown and impacted the community was truly amazing.

They are currently meeting in a school, which means that every Sunday morning the church sets up and tears down everything needed to make church possible that includes tech, sound, chairs, the stage, literally everything. But it was such a joy to see members of the church eager to serve in those roles.

Being a church plant also means living with a deep sense of mission. Resources are often limited, and there is no long-standing building or tradition to rely on, so the church depends heavily on the commitment of its people. Members often wear multiple hats, serve in many areas, and work together to build something new for the sake of reaching their community with the gospel. It creates a unique culture where every person understands that the church is not a place they attend, but a mission they are part of.

Throughout the entire trip we were hosted incredibly well. We stayed in the home of one of the church members, which also serves as a gathering place for small groups. On Thursday night we were able to be part of one of those groups, and the home became a place of genuine spiritual encouragement for us while we were there.

The Canterbury family is truly amazing, and we are incredibly blessed to know them and to have the opportunity to support and love them. Grayson, who is in 10th grade, and Reese, who is in 7th grade, stay connected with Power House through group chats even though they are far away, and we are excited to have them attend camp with us again.

Moments like this remind me how much I love the missional community of First Baptist Winter Park.

Did you know that community is a gift from God that he has given us to spur one another on toward love and good deeds?  The writer of Hebrews urges us not to give up meeting together and encouraging one another. (Hebrews 10:24-25)

We are thankful that so many are gathering together in small groups before worship on Sunday and during the week. We encourage everyone to find a small group. If you need to find a group reach out with the connection card below and we will help you get connected.  Many of our Sunday groups are in temporary locations while we undergo renovations and we are so thankful for all the continued help and flexibility during this time.
