How does your church say "thank you" to employees who are faithful and have served for a long time?
If you have spent any time on staff at a church, then you know that it can be difficult to keep great employees on your team. Whether God calls them away to another opportunity or they leave on their own, staff transitions are inevitable.
However, when someone stays on your team and serves faithfully for a long time, don't let that go unnoticed! Make sure you have a plan in place to reward their faithfulness and longevity.
At our church, here is how we do this:
-
Full-time: For our full-time employees, we reward them every five years, and they receive $100 for every year they have served at our church. So, for example, a full-time employee will receive $500 on their 5th anniversary, $1,000 on their 10th anniversary, $1,500 on their 15th anniversary, etc.
Part-time: For our part-time employees, we reward them every five years, and they receive $50 for every year they have served at our church. So, for example, a part-time employee will receive $250 on their 5th anniversary, $500 on their 10th anniversary, $750 on their 15th anniversary, etc.
And, to make sure that we have the money ready, this is one of the things that we budget for in our personnel budget when we are preparing our annual operating budget. That way, these anniversaries don't sneak up on us and cause us to scramble at the last minute.
Regardless of what you do, let me encourage you to have a plan. The last thing you want to do is miss an important anniversary for someone who serves faithfully on your team. By having a plan in place, you can be strategic with how you reward faithfulness and longevity at your church.
