Christmas is a wonderful time to bless your team. Every year, I would encourage you to give your staff (part-time and full-time) a Christmas bonus. Here are three simple suggestions to make this a reality at your church:
1) Be Prepared: Don't let Christmas bonuses sneak up on you! If you haven't started budgeting for Christmas bonuses, let me encourage you to begin doing so. Otherwise, it will be difficult to bless your team. Budget for it, and treat it like it's part of your team's compensation. That way, you are intentional with your efforts to bless your team at Christmas.
2) Be Fair: Find a way to treat everyone fairly at your church. For example, I know of some churches that give everyone the same amount. I know of other churches that give one amount to their full-time staff, and a different amount to their part-time staff. I also know of other churches that give a Christmas bonus that is equivalent to one-week's worth of pay. The point is, you need to find a way that works best for you and your church, and make sure that it's fair for your team.
3) Be Generous: If you are going to bless your team with a Christmas bonus, then do it the right way. Don't just give them a low-value gift card. Make it count! Be generous! Put a smile on their face. At a minimum, give them a Christmas bonus that has at least two zeros after the first number. And when you do, you won't regret it. Being generous to your team is fun, and it's the right thing to do.
